What is it?
BarKanada turned into a monthly, 55 minutes long podcast about Canadian musicians with preferably original compositions, hosted in German.
Where can I listen to it?
It continues to air on FM and Cable community radio station Radio Tonkuhle (www.tonkuhle.de) in Hildesheim, Germany ONCE a month every second Saturday at 11h am EST, where it also can be listened to online as livestream. Hildesheim is home 2 about 300 000 people and features a small University. Mac-users: iTunes can’t play that stream, but VLC can.
What are the criteria for music to be played in that show/podcast?
Wether or not a song will be featured in a show/podcast is entirely credited to it’s suitability for the targeted audience and seasonal and other timing considerations, such as to have concerts scheduled in Europe, cd releases and/or their songs available online, stuff on YouTube or swim naked through the Saint Lawrence River sure makes artists more likely as candidates for airplay. Please scroll to the bottom to review info and stats about this blog and Radio Tonkuhle.
Where do I send my songs/cd/info?
Please either send an email 2 7dazefool@abroadcom.net with info where to download your mp3′s (256kbps stereo) or snail mail your cd to

A digital press kit on flashdrives like Digging Roots produced and was so friendly 2 hand me during OCFF in Ottawa MAKES ANY INTEGRATION IN MY PROCEEDINGS SO MUCH EASIER – In case it matters 2 anyone: I hate shrink wrap and plastic cases. I try to handle my operation with as little paper use a possible, therefore any digital material will be favoured and is simply easier to handle. In this context it might be interesting to refer to this free service to transfer large files. Radio Submit seems 2 offer smart service as well.
Do you attend live concerts?
Yes, yes and yes. Invitations to your live concerts as soon as u know the dates in advance are appreciated and can be listed on ABROADCOM’s web site, so do let me know about your events (email, facebook, skype, maplepost, it’s all good).
Are participating musicians recompensated?
Listeners (commercial or public) are subject to royalty collections through the German SOCAN-like org GEMA and VG-Wort – payment should in turn come from SOCAN.
Does the service cost a fee?
BarKanada showcases Canadian music FOR FREE to a large, cash laden German spoken market, hopefully resulting in valuable exposure and increased sales of your art FREE OF CHARGE to the musician.
How is Abroadcom funded?
BarKanada’s was funded until June 2010, stemming from the Self-Employment-Benefit-Program by the Leeds-and Grenville Community-Futures-Development-Fund. Now the show relies on donations. You can donate here.
Who is your audience?
German speaking or learning music-lovers such as in venues, radio stations, music media, event organizers, internet portals etc in Germany.
What is the format of barKanada/Radio Tonkuhle?
I don’t format my show, and Radio Tonkuhle is not formatted either – they just explained to me today that the only ads they run on air are sponsored events – once a week they r allowed 2 air a thank u to their main sponsor, a locally organized bank, Die Sparkasse, other local sponsors help with the new mobile broadcast unit, their info is displayed online, but never airs in programming -
Radio Tonkuhle is a community radio station, the mandate is to give citizens a space to participate in media, express themselves on the air and offer them a way of learning by doing, how news is made and radio is produced – entirely different from commercial set up …
“radio” pple use the term “format” for choosing content ultimately in order to sell advertising 2 sponsors, that is why so much really good music and important news never make it into commercial radio – that is definitely not the case with my show nor with Radio Tonkuhle.
With my podcasts I am targeting an audience (smart, mostly male internet users with more than average education), but only because they seem to be the most likely group willing and able to pay for podcasts (according to reputed media surveys) – yet it doesn’t have any consequences in terms of my choice of music – the show is the podcast is the show -
I have now 50 subscribers to my blog @ abroadcom.net, where I don’t exactly know, if sum of them r not spammers -
Throughout 2010 my stats claim that www.abroadcom.net had 2310 unique visitors, loading my site slightly more than 4 times per person on separate visits, with almost 13 hits and near 6 pages per visit which is high above average time/frequency people tend 2 spend on web sites… bots (automated page visits by machines) are aside of those numbers, they tell me.
Also fascinating: countries of origin of those visitors for 2010:
