Weil Kanada am Montag wählt, hier ein Ausschnitt von meinem Skript für die Sendung “barKanada”, wie am 9. April 2011 auf Radio Tonkuhle gesendet (Updates folgen morgen an dieser Stelle):
Jon Brooks mit “Small” – ein neues Beispiel unermüdlicher Engstirnigkeit etabliert sich auch gerade wieder hier in Kanada, wo am 2.Mai ein neues Bundesparlament gewählt wird, nachdem die über drei Parteien verteilte Opposition die konservative Minderheitsregierung mittels Misstrauensvotum Freitag vor einer Woche stoppte – das sind gleich zwei auf einmal: einmal, weil die Harper -Regierung sich weigerte, die Kosten für die neuen, super teuren Kampfjets offen zulegen und außerdem die dementsprechenden 30 Milliarden im neuen Haushalt nirgendwo auftauchen. Und der zweite dicke Hammer: Die grüne Spitzenkandidatin Elizabeth May, ist gerade per Richterspruch von der nationalen, live übertragenen Fernseh-Debatte ausgeschlossen worden, und zwar nur, weil Richter Marc Nadon vom Nationalen Gerichtshof es ablehnte, den Fall vor der ersten Fernsehdebatte am 12. April zu hören, wohlmeinend weil in der verbleibenden Kürze der Zeit angeblich keine sachgemäße Prüfung möglich sei. Dies alles, während ungeliebte Besucher aus den konservativen Wahlveranstaltungen entfernt werden, nachdem Kampagnenhelfer deren Facebook-eintragungen screenten. Ein Mädchen mit einem Facebook-Foto, das sie zusammen mit Michael Ignatieff, dem Vorsitzenden der Liberalen Partei Kanada’s porträtiert, wurde von RCMP Polizisten nach draussen eskortiert. Die betroffenen Polizisten sind wegen fehlendem Mandat abgemahnt worden, da zu keinem Anlass Aggressionen oder Bedrohung von den BesucherInnen ausging. Sieben weitere Fälle sind bislang bekannt, meist Studenten, die nun genau wie Elizabeth May beklagen, dass der Wahlkampf nicht demokratisch genug verläuft, ja die kanadische Demokratie in einer Krise steckt, worüber May ein Buch geschrieben hat. Dazu möchte ich gerne den folgenden O-Ton aus dem Jahre 2007 einspielen, wir hören Robert Lovelace, Professor an der Queens-University in Kingston:

80 Prozent des Kanadischen Bruttosozialprodukt kommen über die Ausbeutung von Bodenschätzen zustande…. und das Land sei in den Händen einiger weniger, sehr reicher Familien, so der pensionierte Algonquin-Älteste anlässlich seines Protestes gegen Uranbohrungen in dem mit kleinen Seen und Flüssen durchzogenen Landstrich, der von Ottawa bis fast nach Kingston reicht. Genau auf besagtem Algonquinland befindet sich auch das Nationale Parlament in der Hauptstadt Ottawa – eine sehr verfahrene Situation, über die man deshalb auch kaum etwas hört. Nächsten Monat wissen wir mehr, die Wahlen am 2. Mai per Direktstimme, vergleichbar mit dem englischen Wahlsystem, lassen kaum hoffen auf Veränderung. Die Grünen, obwohl bei sechs Prozent im kanadischen Durchschnitt in 2008, werden auch diesmal sehr wahrscheinlich ohne parlamentarische Vertretung ausgehen.
Auf der anderen Seite bin ich gespannt, wie sehr die sozialen Netzwerke die Wahl beeinflussen werden, das scheint ja eher die Stärke der kleinen Parteien zu sein….
Jedes Jahr die gleiche Leier, spätestens zur Firmen-Weihnachstfeier hat man die Ohren voll von den seligen Nötchen (hier von “Note”) – der Neu-Braunschweiger Matt Andersen sorgt da in aller Seelenruhe für stimmige Abhilfe. Mein Tip:
