Two Quick Actions You Can Take to End Canadian Complicity in the Slaughter of Palestinians
1. Israel is the top non-U.S. destination for Canadian weapons export permits, the same weapons which are slaughtering Palestinians every day, the same weapons used in the daily enforcement of apartheid. On 401 separate occasions in 2019, Canada’s Global Affairs bureaucracy sat down and ignored Israel violations of Palestinian human rights and approved the weapons sales that its government partner, the Canadian Commercial Corporation, had brokered. Call/write Global Affairs Minister Marc Garneau (613-996-7267, Marc.Garneau@parl.gc.ca) and demand a permanent halt to the sale of Canadian weapons to Israel. Weapons sales to the USA are an additional, undocumented back door to sending weapons to Israel. Ultimately, the production and sale of weapons should fully end in this country.
2. Call/Write Transport Minister Omar Alghabra (613-992-1301, 613-993-0055,Omar.Alghabra@parl.gc.ca, TC.MinisterofTransport-MinistredesTransports.TC@tc.gc.ca) and demand that he cancel the $36.6 million purchase of drones from the Israeli military firm Elbit, which boasts that its products are “combat-tested” on Palestinian civilians.
Elbit Systems produces cruel and inhumane products like white phosphorous, a chemical weapon used by Israel in Gaza. It also provides technology for Israel’s apartheid wall, which was deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice.Israel used Elbit Systems drones during its air strikes on Gaza in 2014, when 860 Palestinians, including 164 children, were killed in drone attacks. Canada should not be financially supporting a company with so much blood on its hands.>>
