Depuis maintenant quelques semaines, nous assistons avec horreur à des descentes militaires de la GRC dans les territoires non cédés des Wet’suwet’en en Colombie-Britannique. Des défenseurs et défenseuses se font arrêter alors qu’ielles protègent les terres et eaux contre le projet de gazoduc Coastal GasLink [1]. Ces violences sont du colonialisme flagrant et nous devons nous y opposer.  

Le projet du gazoduc CGL viole gravement les droits des peuples autochtones, pose un risque majeur pour les écosystèmes et augmentera la production des combustibles fossiles au moment même où il faudrait la réduire. Il est ignoble que le Canada soutient des entreprises qui refusent de respecter le Consentement Préalable, donné Librement et en Connaissance de Cause (CPLCC) des Premières Nations, et qui tentent plutôt d’exproprier un territoire autochtone non cédé pour générer des profits en exploitant des énergies fossiles sales.

Two Canadian journalists arrested by RCMP while covering Wet’suwet’en land defenders in B.C.

Two journalists were arrested and detained by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia Friday night while reporting from Wet’suwet’en territory. Both remain in custody.

Since last year, media has covered RCMP raids in the territory, Indigenous rights and police removal of defenders of the land who are blocking the logging of old-growth forests in the area.

Photographer Amber Bracken was on assignment for The Narwhal when she was arrested. Filmmaker and photographer Michael Toledo, a freelance reporter who has been living in Wet’suwet’en territory in order to create a documentary about what Indigenous people face in the region, was also arrested.

    Angus Reid poll shows majority support for proportional outcome

    Today’s Angus Reid poll shows that three in five voters (61%) prefer the election results that would have been produced if their ballots had counted proportionally.

    Supporters of a proportional outcome were a majority in every province. 

    Predictably, Liberal voters were less enchanted with this particular hypothetical outcome than others, considering first-past-the-post delivered their party a 45-50 seat bonus compared to the popular vote. Support was particularly high among Conservative (78%) and NDP (80%) voters.

    Angus Reid’s 2021 poll question differed from previous polling questions. It showed voters a hypothetical outcome―seat numbers―under a strictly proportional representation system in this election based on pre-election polling.

    THE N95 MASK: The filtration material itself of N95’s average pore size ~0.3−0.5 μm [larger average pore size is just like the mucosa filter of the NOSE] does not block finer aerosol laden with virions penetration, not to mention surgical masks. For example, see Balazy et al. (2006).

    CONCLUSION: THE HUMAN NOSE is as good a filter as an N95 mask given the N95 mask has many pores which are equal in size to the filtration capacity of the nose of 0.5μm.

    Despite contrary statements in a pr from OCT 12th, The US Canadian border separating Ontario and New York State remains closed to the so-called non-essential land travel. My guess is that will remain the official situation because CBP or other custom agents won’t be committing those human rights violations when processing locals travelling in their own vehicles like we used to! That means now is the time to swarm those offices and press these people in the uniforms to let their neighbours pass!
