Depuis maintenant quelques semaines, nous assistons avec horreur à des descentes militaires de la GRC dans les territoires non cédés des Wet’suwet’en en Colombie-Britannique. Des défenseurs et défenseuses se font arrêter alors qu’ielles protègent les terres et eaux contre le projet de gazoduc Coastal GasLink [1]. Ces violences sont du colonialisme flagrant et nous devons nous y opposer.
Le projet du gazoduc CGL viole gravement les droits des peuples autochtones, pose un risque majeur pour les écosystèmes et augmentera la production des combustibles fossiles au moment même où il faudrait la réduire. Il est ignoble que le Canada soutient des entreprises qui refusent de respecter le Consentement Préalable, donné Librement et en Connaissance de Cause (CPLCC) des Premières Nations, et qui tentent plutôt d’exproprier un territoire autochtone non cédé pour générer des profits en exploitant des énergies fossiles sales.
Ensemble, nous avons une chance de mettre fin à ce financement afin d’enterrer ce projet d’énergie fossile une fois pour toutes. Dites aux grandes banques canadiennes de cesser de financer le projet CGLmaintenant!Signez la pétition
Greenpeace soutient les Wet’suwet’en, le poste de contrôle de Gidimt’en et le camp Unist’ot’en. La présence de la GRC sur un territoire non cédé constitue une violation flagrante de la Déclaration des Nations unies sur les droits des peuples autochtones (DNUDPA), qui a été appuyée par les gouvernements Trudeau et Horgan [2] [3]. Suite aux événements climatiques extrêmes alimentés par les changements climatiques de cette année en Colombie-Britannique, il est ridicule que ce projet soit protégé par les gouvernements provincial et fédéral [4] [5].
De plus, les cinq grandes banques fossiles du Canada continuent de financer ce gazoduc, rompant ainsi leurs promesses de respecter les droits des peuples autochtones et de lutter contre la crise climatique. Trop c’est trop ! Nous devons montrer notre soutien sans faille aux défenseurs et défenseuses Wet’suwet’en et à la terre et aux ressources en eau qui leur appartiennent depuis toujours. En nous mobilisant, nous pouvons mettre fin à ce projet de combustibles fossiles sales. ## Sterbender COVID-19-Patient erholt sich, nachdem das Gericht das Krankenhaus zur Verabreichung von Ivermectin verurteilt hat.

**Ein älterer COVID-19-Patient hat sich erholt, nachdem ein Gerichtsbeschluss ihm erlaubt hatte, mit Ivermectin behandelt zu werden, trotz Einwänden des Krankenhauses, in dem er sich aufhielt, so der Anwalt der Familie.**
Nachdem ein Krankenhaus in Illinois darauf bestanden hatte, dem Patienten teures Remdesivir zu verabreichen, und die Behandlung fehlschlug, wurde sein Leben gerettet, nachdem ein Gericht angeordnet hatte, dass ein externer Arzt das billige Ivermectin verwenden durfte, um ihn zu behandeln, gegen die anstrengenden Einwände des Krankenhauses.
Ivermectin-Tabletten wurden von der US-amerikanischen Food and Drug Administration (FDA) zur Behandlung von Menschen mit intestinaler Strongyloidiasis und Onchozerkose, zwei Erkrankungen, die durch parasitäre Würmer verursacht werden, zugelassen.
Einige topische Formen von Ivermectin wurden zur Behandlung von externen Parasiten wie Kopfläusen und bei Hauterkrankungen wie Rosacea zugelassen. Das Medikament ist auch für die Anwendung bei Tieren zugelassen.
Remdesivir hat von der FDA eine Notfallzulassung für die Behandlung bestimmter Kategorien menschlicher Patienten erhalten, die mit COVID-19 ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert wurden. Aber die Verwendung von Ivermectin zur Behandlung von Menschen, die an COVID-19 leiden, ist umstritten geworden, weil die FDA ihre sogenannte Off-Label-Verwendung zur Behandlung der Krankheit, die durch das CCP-Virus, auch bekannt als SARS-CoV-2, verursacht wird, nicht genehmigt hat.
**Kritiker werfen der FDA seit langem vor, sich in die Länge zu ziehen und bei ihrem Ansatz zur Regulierung von Arzneimitteln gefährlich übervorsichtig und gleichgültig gegenüber menschlichem Leid zu sein, eine Kritik, die dazu führte, dass der damalige Präsident Donald Trump im Mai 2018 den Right to Try Act unterzeichnete. **
**Das Gesetz ist laut FDA** “***eine weitere Möglichkeit für Patienten, bei denen lebensbedrohliche Krankheiten oder Zustände diagnostiziert wurden, die alle zugelassenen Behandlungsoptionen ausprobiert haben und die nicht an einer klinischen Studie teilnehmen können, um Zugang zu bestimmten nicht zugelassenen Behandlungen zu erhalten***”.
Ärzten steht es frei, Ivermectin zur Behandlung von COVID-19 zu verschreiben, obwohl die FDA behauptet, dass seine Off-Label-Verwendung unter bestimmten Umständen schädlich sein könnte. Klinische Studien am Menschen mit dem Medikament zur Bekämpfung von COVID-19 sind derzeit im Gange, so die Agentur.
Die Droge rettete “definitiv” das Leben des älteren Patienten, “weil sich sein Zustand unmittelbar nach der Einnahme von Ivermectin änderte”, sagte die Anwältin der Familie, Kirstin M. Erickson von Mauck and Bakeraus Chicago, der Epoch Times.
Sun Ng, 71, der die Vereinigten Staaten aus Hongkong besuchte, um den ersten Geburtstag seiner Enkelin zu feiern, erkrankten an COVID-19 und war innerhalb weniger Tage dem Tode nahe. Er wurde am 14. Oktober im Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois, einem Teil des Edward-Elmhurst-Gesundheitssystems, ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert. Sein Zustand verschlechterte sich dramatisch und er wurde intubiert und einige Tage später an ein Beatmungsgerät angeschlossen.
Ngs einziges Kind, Man Kwan Ng, der einen Doktortitel in Maschinenbau hat, führte ihre eigenen Nachforschungen durch und entschied, dass ihr Vater Ivermectin einnehmen sollte, von dem einige Ärzte glauben, dass es gegen COVID-19 wirksam ist, trotz der gegenteiligen Richtlinien der FDA.
**Aber gegen den Willen der Tochter weigerte sich das Krankenhaus, Ivermectin zu verabreichen und verweigerte den Zugang zu einem Arzt, der bereit war, es zu verabreichen.**
Die Tochter ging im Namen ihres Vaters vor Gericht und am 1. November erließ Richter Paul M. Fullerton vom Circuit Court of DuPage County eine einstweilige Verfügung, die das Krankenhaus verpflichtete, dem Patienten die Verabreichung von Ivermectin zu erlauben. Das Krankenhaus weigerte sich, dem Gerichtsbeschluss nachzukommen.
Bei einer anschließenden Gerichtsverhandlung am 5. November sagte Fullerton, ein Arzt, der aussagte, beschrieb Sun Ng als “im Grunde auf seinem Sterbebett”, mit einer Überlebenschance von nur 10 bis 15 Prozent. Ivermectin kann geringfügige Nebenwirkungen wie Schwindel, juckende Haut und Durchfall bei der für Ng vorgeschlagenen Dosierung haben, aber die “Risiken dieser Nebenwirkungen sind so minimal, dass die aktuelle Situation von Herrn Ng dieses Risiko um das Hundertfache überwiegt”, sagte Fullerton.
**Der Richter erließ an diesem Tag eine einstweilige Verfügung, in der er das Krankenhaus anwies, “sofort … vorübergehende Notfallprivilegien” an Ngs Arzt, Dr. Alan Bain, “nur um diesem Patienten Ivermectin zu verabreichen”.**
Das Krankenhaus widersetzte sich der Anordnung am 6. und 7. November und verweigerte Bain den Zugang zu seinem Patienten. Das Krankenhaus behauptete, dass es Bain nicht hereinlassen konnte, weil er nicht gegen COVID-19 geimpft war und dass sein Chief Medical Officer nicht zur Verfügung stand, um Bain bei der Verabreichung von Ivermectin zu “proctoren”.
Die Anwälte der Tochter reichten am 8. November einen Notfallbericht beim Gericht ein und Fullerton hörte von beiden Seiten. Der Richter ermahnte das Krankenhaus und wiederholte, dass es Bain über einen Zeitraum von 15 Tagen in das Krankenhaus lassen müsse, um seine Arbeit zu erledigen. Als das Krankenhaus einen Antrag auf Aussetzung der Anordnung stellte, lehnte Fullerton dies ab und wies die Einrichtung erneut an, der Anordnung nachzukommen.
## Das Ivermectin scheint funktioniert zu haben, und Sun Ng hat sich von COVID-19 erholt. Er wurde am 27. November vom Krankenhaus entlassen.
“*Die Genesung meines Vaters ist erstaunlich*”, sagte seine Tochter, Man Kwan Ng, in einer Erklärung.
“*Mein Vater ist ein harter Mann. Er arbeitete so hart, um zu überleben, und natürlich mit Gottes Händchen halten. Er entwöhnte den Sauerstoff etwa drei Tage nach dem Auszug aus der Intensivstation. Er begann vor der Entlassung aus dem Krankenhaus mit der oralen Fütterung. Er kehrte nach Hause zurück, ohne eine Flasche Sauerstoff und eine Ernährungssonde in seinem Magen zu tragen. Er kann nun mit einem Rollator am Bett stehen und das Treten üben. Nachdem er einen Monat lang an einem Beatmungsgerät auf der Intensivstation sediert wurde, übertrifft seine Leistung unsere Erwartungen. Preist den Herrn*.”
**Anwalt Erickson sagte, das “glückliche” Endergebnis hier gebe “Hoffnung für die Nation”.**
“*Wir bekommen Anrufe von überall her*”, sagte sie der Epoch Times. “*Leute, die Krankenhäuser verklagen wollen, nachdem jemand gestorben ist, wollten die Medizin bekommen und konnten es nicht. Offensichtlich ist das ein anderer, schwieriger Fall, weil ein medizinischer Kunstfehler sehr schwierig ist.* ”
Die Leute wollen nur das Beste für ihre Familienmitglieder tun und “Ivermectin selbst finden” und es zur Hand haben “und es verwenden, wenn jemand Beginnt, Symptome zu entwickeln”, sagte Erickson.
Sie sagte, ihr Anwaltsteam und ihr Klient seien “wirklich dankbar”, dass Ng sich erholt habe, und “wir grüßen” Richter Fullerton, Dr. Bain und andere sowie das Krankenhaus, weil sie sich am Ende an die gerichtliche Anordnung gehalten haben.

Two ways of arguing this problem, can our rights and freedoms be infringed or not ?
Number one: the Bill of Rights has never been extiguished by any other documents not by the Charter not anything else that means there is not even a non-withstanding clause which would suspend civil rights and freedoms in case of emergency that was life-threatening to the majority of the population. That means even if we had a health emergency, according to the supreme law of the land no government of Canada and no provincial nor municipal government has any legit authorization to infringe on our rights.
This former security detail of our Crime Minister decided to take the more controversial road and argue with the Charter of Rights and furthermore alleged that there is NO CAUSE for an emergency – as the CDC changed the definition of The term “pandemic”, and there is now no mortality at all required to deliver fake reasons for the popular suspension of the peoples rights and freedoms at the hands of the world health organization WHO.
The other reason why there is no health emergency that would warrant emergency authorization for unsafe injections with an experimental genetic treatment is the fact that there is other over-the-counter medications, treatments available, such as HCQ, Vit D3, zinc, vitamin C and of course Ivermectin in combination with Azithromycin or another antibiotic.
This should be a wake up call to any public servant in uniform with a gun.

Two Canadian journalists arrested by RCMP while covering Wet’suwet’en land defenders in B.C.

Two journalists were arrested and detained by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia Friday night while reporting from Wet’suwet’en territory. Both remain in custody.
Since last year, media has covered RCMP raids in the territory, Indigenous rights and police removal of defenders of the land who are blocking the logging of old-growth forests in the area.
Photographer Amber Bracken was on assignment for The Narwhal when she was arrested. Filmmaker and photographer Michael Toledo, a freelance reporter who has been living in Wet’suwet’en territory in order to create a documentary about what Indigenous people face in the region, was also arrested.
The Narwhal said in statements posted to Twitter that they are “extremely disturbed” to learn that Bracken was arrested and that the RCMP is refusing to release her in violation of her charter rights.
They also confirmed to the Star that Bracken carried a formal letter of assignment with her and she was clearly identified as a member of the media. Emma Gilchrist, editor-in-chief of the Narwhal, said they’ve reached out to the RCMP to inform them that Bracken was working as a journalist covering the Gidimt’en camp.
“We strongly condemn the RCMP for this behaviour and all violations of press freedoms in this country,” she said in an emailed statement.
Carol Linnitt, the co-founder of The Narwhal, said in statements posted to Twitter early Saturday morning that Bracken will be transported from Houston, B.C. to Smithers and then to Prince George to face a bail hearing on Monday.
Linnitt said Bracken was reporting from within an injunction zone.
“The fact that the RCMP know without a doubt that (Bracken) is a journalist and was on scene in order to report for a publication and they are still refusing to release her makes me so incredibly angry,” she said.
In a press release posted Friday night, the RCMP said they obsevered “additional obstructions” around a drilling site and told those within the structures to leave or face arrest after reading a “ BC Supreme Court injunction”. They said individuals “failed to comply” and they were detained. Eleven people were arrested including two independant journalists, they confirmed.
A total of 15 people were arrested Friday for “breaching” the injunction, they said.
Brent Jolly, president of the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ), says that the two arrests are unjustified.
“It’s completely and utterly shocking the extent to which the RCMP are going to prevent journalists from covering events that are happening in the public interest,” he said.
Jolly says that neither he nor Bracken and Toledo’s lawyers have been able to get in contact with the pair.
Bracken and Toledo are currently being detained in Smithers, B.C., and are scheduled to be transported to Prince George for a bail hearing on Monday, according to Jolly.
Last year, Bracken won the CAJ President’s Award along with two other reporters for their “moral courage” in defending press freedom from Wet’suwet’en territory.
In July, the Canadian Association of Journalists, a non-profit that works to defend press freedom and connect reporters across the country, along with multiple other journalism organizations won a court challenge at the Supreme Court in B.C. on press freedom in the Fairy Creek area.
They urged the court to modify an injunction to that would tell the RCMP to stop restricting media from the area without an operational reason to do so. The final decision from the judge agreed with the media groups, explaining that the RCMP had failed to prove why they needed to exclude media from covering the region.
Media have argued they need to be present to document police actions on the territory, where the Wet’suwet’en people say they have never ceded or given up their land.
Jolly says the recent arrests demonstrate that the ruling has fallen on deaf ears.
“It has been completely disregarded,” he said. “At this point, we’re trying to figure out what course of actions we can take. But right now, what we want is for Amber and Michael to be released immediately.”

I have constantly received a direction from the Australian Government in one way or another pushing their mentalities & I feel very intimidated, harassed & continuously victimized by the Australian Government & it’s Press & our Public Services wanting to force “us the people” to receive the experimental COVID-19 poison/vaccination/s, which I think violates their own “Duty Of Care” Act, especially with the track record of these horrific results, Thus as I see is being illegal in every way & any way what so ever.
I note the following information published by the Therapeutic Goods Administration on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health:
• The biggest risk with both vaccines is auto-immune response. From an immunology perspective, the antibodies may be ‘tricked’ into destroying otherwise healthy cells when encountered in future.
• Previous coronavirus vaccines have never passed the pre-clinical stage. SARS-CoV vaccines were tested in a number of animal trials conducted which resulted in consistent auto-immune reaction
outcomes. Furthermore, the m-RNA vaccines have not been used on humans before.
• The disease COVID-19 presents a 99.9% rate of full recovery for those under 70 years of age with no serious co-morbidity. Directing and/or mandating vaccines on the whole population given these
statistics is a disproportionate response.
• It remains unclear as to WHY the Australian Government has past this job on to you & your Business/es and not informed you of the regulations governing the ethical runnings of Clinical Trials and you could be charged and your business put in jeopardy for breaching these regulations.
• It remains unclear if any or sufficient insurance cover will be available in the event I suffer injury,
and in the absence of a comprehensive no fault vaccine injury compensation scheme, there is a
real likelihood that I may not be compensated.
• The vaccine companies have a history of criminal conduct including charges and convictions for
illegal marketing, bribery and health care fraud.
• The Australian Government has made it abundantly clear that vaccination against COVID-19 will be
voluntary for the Australian public and no disincentives will apply (e.g. denial of financial benefits)
to those choosing not to get vaccinated.
• There are no government mandates for COVID-19 vaccination.
• Alternative controls are available to employers and occupiers to maintain occupational health and
safety and public safety.
I further note that numerous laws, regulations and policies protect the right of informed consent in receiving a vaccine or any medical procedure, including:
• The Commonwealth Constitution s.51(xxiiiA) which prohibits civil conscription in medical and dental services.
• The Biosecurity Act 2015 (Cth) s.95 prohibits the use of force for vaccination.

Today’s Angus Reid poll shows that three in five voters (61%) prefer the election results that would have been produced if their ballots had counted proportionally.
Supporters of a proportional outcome were a majority in every province.
Predictably, Liberal voters were less enchanted with this particular hypothetical outcome than others, considering first-past-the-post delivered their party a 45-50 seat bonus compared to the popular vote. Support was particularly high among Conservative (78%) and NDP (80%) voters.
Angus Reid’s 2021 poll question differed from previous polling questions. It showed voters a hypothetical outcome―seat numbers―under a strictly proportional representation system in this election based on pre-election polling.
Generally, polls ask Canadians how much they support the core principles of PR―that the seats in Parliament should more closely match the popular vote or that every vote should count.
An Angus Reid poll after the election in 2019 (69%) and a Leger poll in September 2020 (76%) showed strong majority support for PR across all provinces and across party lines.
Taken together, these polls reinforce the findings of numerous others conducted over the last 20 years showing strong support in Canada for proportional representation.
Two caveats are important to mention when looking at these results:
1) People will vote differently under a system where they know their vote will really count toward the makeup of Parliament
2) No model of proportional representation that is recommended or realistic for Canada is perfectly proportional.
Two of the systems most commonly recommended for Canada have been used: Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) and Single Transferable Vote (PR-STV).
To accommodate our geography and maintain strong local representation, they tend to be designed to deliver moderately proportional results.
Research also shows that voters are less likely to vote for far-right parties in proportional systems compared to those with winner-take-all systems like ours.

Given partisan interests which hinder progress and fuel distrust, what is the most viable path to improving our voting system?
In September 2020, Leger found that 80% of Canadians support a National Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform. Support was strong across party lines:
A citizens’ assembly is a trustworthy, non-partisan, independent process.
Members of a citizens’ assembly are selected in much the same way a jury is selected, with added steps taken to ensure that they are truly representative of all Canadians. They would examine the evidence and make a recommendation that is in the interests of all voters and democracy in the long term.
In the last Parliament, the Procedure and House Affairs Committee― including the Liberal members―voted to study a National Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform.

With Single Transferable Vote, several local ridings are merged and voters collectively elect several MPs using a ranked ballot (allowing them to mark candidates 1, 2, 3 etc. in order of preference). STV is a great example of how a ranked ballot and proportional representation can work together.
If moderately proportional STV had been used in the 2021 election, the results would have been:
Note that the seat results for most parties are much closer to proportional than Canada’s current system, but not a perfect match.
For those noticing only one seat for the Green Party (compared to 2 they just won with first-past-the-post), it’s important to note that the Greens just had their worst election in decades.
There were no Green candidates on the ballot in one quarter of the ridings in Canada, so those votes weren’t there to factor into a simulation. Greens received only 2.3% of the national vote―about one third of their share in 2019. A simulation cannot capture an outlier like Mike Morrice’s win in Kitchener Centre.
When their support bounces back to more traditional levels, we are confident that Greens would win substantially more seats under STV than first-past-the-post, as they do with STV in Ireland, Tasmaniaand Australian Capital Territory.
With Mixed Member Proportional, voters elect both a local MP in a larger riding using first-past-the-post and one or more MPs that serve the entire region. The regional MPs, selected by voters from an open list, compensate for the distortions of the first-past-the post results and ensure that the overall seat totals for each party more closely reflect their share of the popular vote.
If a moderately proportional MMP system had been used in the 2021 election, the results would have been:

Excerpt from “From Press Freedom To Prison Systems, Everything Assange Touches Gets Illuminated”:
The US appeal of a British court ruling on the Assange extradition case has concluded, and the judges will probably not have a decision ready until at least January—a full year after the extradition was denied by a lower court. Assange, despite being convicted of no crime, will have remained in Belmarsh Prison the entire time.
During that time the judges will be weighing arguments they’d heard about the cruel nature of the US prison system, which formed a major part of the reasoning behind Judge Vanessa Baraitser’s rejection of the US extradition request. They’ll be considering the draconian policy of Special Administrative Measures, whose victims are cut off from human contact and from the outside world. They’ll be considering the brutality of the supermax ADX facility in Florence, Colorado whose inmates are kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, and where Assange could easily wind up imprisoned despite the prosecution’s flimsy assurances.
Assange probably never set out on this journey with the goal of calling attention to the abuses of the US prison system as his foremost priority, but, as is so often the case with anything his journey touches, those abuses keep getting pulled into the light of public awareness anyway. His case is now no longer just about press freedom, US war crimes, corrupt governments collaborating to stomp out inconvenient truth tellers, and the malfeasance of US alphabet agencies, but about the abusive nature of the US prison system as well.
And this is a big part of what I find so endlessly captivating about the life of this extraordinary individual. No matter what he’s doing, no matter where he is, no matter how beaten down and silenced and immobilized they may appear to have him, his life keeps exposing things. Keeps bringing things into the light.
It’s been a constant throughout his life as near as I can tell, from when he was a young man using his technical prowess to help Australian police bring down distributors of online child pornography in the mid-nineties. This curious impulse to bring what is hidden in the dark out into the light where it can be seen is what gave birth to WikiLeaks and all the major revelations about the criminality and corruption of the powerful which resulted from its publications.
And as paradigm-shattering as those many bombshell revelations were, they were arguably small potatoes compared to the criminality Assange exposed by simply standing his ground until the most powerful institutions in the world conspired to drag him from the Ecuadorian embassy and lock him in Belmarsh Prison for telling the truth.

Despite contrary statements in a pr from OCT 12th, The US Canadian border separating Ontario and New York State remains closed to the so-called non-essential land travel. C’est ainsi que le premier ministre de la Colombie-Britannique, John Horgan, a qualifié un groupe pacifique composé de protectrices et protecteurs autochtones de la forêt et de leurs allié·es lors des blocus de Fairy Creek/Ada’itsx la semaine dernière [1]. Je ne sais pas ce que vous en pensez, mais les personnes qui s’opposent aux tronçonneuses pour protéger les dernières parcelles de la forêt pluviale tempérée ancienne de l’île de Vancouver ne sont pas des squatteurs. Ce sont des héros. Et ils ont besoin de notre aide.
Au cours de l’été, la violence policière contre les protecteur·rices pacifiques s’est beaucoup intensifiée. Des vidéos virales montrent des agent·es de la GRC en train d’étouffer, de poivrer, de donner des coups de poing et de traîner les activistes par les cheveux, face contre terre et sur des rochers [2]. Des témoins ont rapporté que la GRC s’en prend à des activistes autochtones et qu’une personne a été tenue afin de l’asperger de gaz poivré directement dans la bouche. Les vidéos sont tout simplement horribles [3].
Joignez-vous à nous pour condamner cette violence policière excessive à l’égard des protectrices et protecteurs de la forêt. Demandez au premier ministre Horgan de proposer des solutions plutôt que d’amplifier la répression.
La GRC a également créé des zones d’exclusion illégales pour empêcher les journalistes de faire des reportages, et par conséquent, il est plus difficile pour le public de savoir ce qui se passe réellement [4]. En fait, la semaine dernière, un juge de la Colombie-Britannique a refusé à l’entreprise forestière Teal Jones une prolongation de son injonction contre les personnes défendant la forêt de Fairy Creek, affirmant spécifiquement que la GRC avait violé les libertés civiles des personnes présentes sur le site, entravé la liberté de la presse et mis en péril la réputation du tribunal [5]. Le fait que Teal Jones ait fait appel à une injonction provisoire, et qu’elle l’ait reçue, souligne l’urgente nécessité d’une action immédiate du gouvernement [6].
Le premier ministre Horgan affirme qu’il n’avait aucune autorité sur la GRC ou ses tactiques, mais rien ne l’empêche de condamner la violence ou de demander une plus grande responsabilisation. Son gouvernement a plutôt appuyé les tactiques de la GRC en approuvant la construction de barrières de sécurité sur un chemin forestier public [7].
N’oublions pas que tous ces événements n’auraient jamais eu lieu si Horgan avait tenu ses promesses de protéger les forêts anciennes dès le départ. Il est temps de faire pression pour trouver des solutions pour la forêt – et pour tenir la police responsable de ses actes.
Les scientifiques estiment que 1 300 tonnes de carbone par hectare sont stockées dans les forêts de Fairy Creek, ce qui est supérieur à ce qui est stocké par la forêt amazonienne et six fois supérieur aux forêts sèches de l’intérieur de la Colombie-Britannique [8]. Ces forêts méritent d’être protégées.
Les protecteur·rices de la forêt font confiance à la science – et la science dit qu’il n’y a tout simplement plus de temps à perdre [9]. Pourtant, c’est ce que Horgan continue de faire : son gouvernement a manqué son propre échéancier estival pour mettre en place d’autres rapports [10].
Dans un contexte de « code rouge pour l’humanité », cette situation est inacceptable. Le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique a repris ses fonctions après sa pause estivale. Envoyons à Horgan un chaleureux message de bienvenue : nous sommes solidaires des protectrices et protecteurs de la forêt. Tenez vos promesses de sauver les forêts anciennes et mettez immédiatement fin à la violence policière.
Greenpeace soutient la désobéissance civile pacifique et emploie cette dernière pour exiger des changements et protéger l’environnement. La liberté d’expression, la liberté de la presse et la liberté de se réunir pacifiquement sont des droits importants. Le traitement réservé aux personnes qui protestent à Fairy Creek ne peut être ignoré par les autorités concernées. Comme l’a dit un militant : « La GRC fait en sorte qu’il est dangereux de manifester pacifiquement. »

Today’s Angus Reid poll shows that three in five voters (61%) prefer the election results that would have been produced if their ballots had counted proportionally.
Supporters of a proportional outcome were a majority in every province.
Predictably, Liberal voters were less enchanted with this particular hypothetical outcome than others, considering first-past-the-post delivered their party a 45-50 seat bonus compared to the popular vote. Support was particularly high among Conservative (78%) and NDP (80%) voters.
Angus Reid’s 2021 poll question differed from previous polling questions. It showed voters a hypothetical outcome―seat numbers―under a strictly proportional representation system in this election based on pre-election polling.
Generally, polls ask Canadians how much they support the core principles of PR―that the seats in Parliament should more closely match the popular vote or that every vote should count.
An Angus Reid poll after the election in 2019 (69%) and a Leger poll in September 2020 (76%) showed strong majority support for PR across all provinces and across party lines.
Taken together, these polls reinforce the findings of numerous others conducted over the last 20 years showing strong support in Canada for proportional representation.
Two caveats are important to mention when looking at these results:
1) People will vote differently under a system where they know their vote will really count toward the makeup of Parliament
2) No model of proportional representation that is recommended or realistic for Canada is perfectly proportional.
Two of the systems most commonly recommended for Canada have been used: Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) and Single Transferable Vote (PR-STV).
To accommodate our geography and maintain strong local representation, they tend to be designed to deliver moderately proportional results.
Research also shows that voters are less likely to vote for far-right parties in proportional systems compared to those with winner-take-all systems like ours.

Given partisan interests which hinder progress and fuel distrust, what is the most viable path to improving our voting system?
In September 2020, Leger found that 80% of Canadians support a National Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform. Support was strong across party lines:
A citizens’ assembly is a trustworthy, non-partisan, independent process.
Members of a citizens’ assembly are selected in much the same way a jury is selected, with added steps taken to ensure that they are truly representative of all Canadians. They would examine the evidence and make a recommendation that is in the interests of all voters and democracy in the long term.
In the last Parliament, the Procedure and House Affairs Committee― including the Liberal members―voted to study a National Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform.
This work needs to begin immediately.

With Single Transferable Vote, several local ridings are merged and voters collectively elect several MPs using a ranked ballot (allowing them to mark candidates 1, 2, 3 etc. in order of preference). STV is a great example of how a ranked ballot and proportional representation can work together.
If moderately proportional STV had been used in the 2021 election, the results would have been:
Note that the seat results for most parties are much closer to proportional than Canada’s current system, but not a perfect match.
For those noticing only one seat for the Green Party (compared to 2 they just won with first-past-the-post), it’s important to note that the Greens just had their worst election in decades.
There were no Green candidates on the ballot in one quarter of the ridings in Canada, so those votes weren’t there to factor into a simulation. Greens received only 2.3% of the national vote―about one third of their share in 2019. A simulation cannot capture an outlier like Mike Morrice’s win in Kitchener Centre.
When their support bounces back to more traditional levels, we are confident that Greens would win substantially more seats under STV than first-past-the-post, as they do with STV in Ireland, Tasmaniaand Australian Capital Territory.
With Mixed Member Proportional, voters elect both a local MP in a larger riding using first-past-the-post and one or more MPs that serve the entire region. The regional MPs, selected by voters from an open list, compensate for the distortions of the first-past-the post results and ensure that the overall seat totals for each party more closely reflect their share of the popular vote.
If a moderately proportional MMP system had been used in the 2021 election, the results would have been:
