A 22 year young Brian E Downey here so precise on these really sophisticated fills and rolls, at the same time so loose and in the back pocket at all times after only three years of playing the drums at all – really creating a testament to the Motown style in this recording ! Lucky him his fabulous singer performer musician wife #PattiHall introduced him into the Detroit scene!

If you have noticed other Detroit or Chicago recordings with Brian E. Downey on the drums please let us know – this is however the only vinyl that survived in his household!

Back At The Chicken Shack (Jimmy Smith 1960) was recorded here with Brian Downey feat. “Pedro” Ullmann @ L’Escalier Montréal THU 12 JULY 2012, a hot night it was.

Bad news though, coz the venue remains closed to live performances since June 2013. Please show your solidarity with this petition to reinstate live performances @ L’Escalier Montreal. The delay by the City of Montreal seems arbitrary knowing the venue has been fully sound proofed and was ready to reopen in July 2013 yet remains closed because of which these cats have lost four shows this summer with no recompensation or replacement whatsoever.

Sehr begnadet und ziemlich lustig im Angesicht der täglichen Herausforderungen – seine Stimme, die Kompositionen und die Band einfach toll! Ron Sexsmith tourt durch Nordeuropa mit vielen Stops in England, einigen in Holland und jeweils einem Konzert in Finnland, Frankreich und Deutschland. Unbedingt hingehen, wenn Ihr könnt. Genaue Tourdaten hier. Wenn’s die Zeit erlaubt, spiele ich einen Ron-Titel in der nächsten barKanada am kommenden Samstag. Andernfalls im September!

Eine wunderschöne, junge Sängerin, die ihre originalen Kompositionen am Klavier charmant illustriert:  Ann Vriend wird die hessischen Bergdörfer im Sturm für sich einnehmen, da bin ich sicher – ich konnte die originelle Poetin auf der jährlichen OCFF (Ontario Conference of Folk Festivals) hier in Ottawa kennenlernen und ein paar Ihrer Stücke hören – neun deutsche Bühnen hat Ann Vriend im November auf ihrem Spielplan.
